DaSCHCon on IIIF, 3D & Interoperability

When: Wednesday 25 October 2023 (10:15 - 17:00)

Where: Basel and online

We are happy to invite you to the second DaSCHCon of 2023 that will take place on Wednesday 25 October 2023 in Basel and which will be devoted to the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and three-dimensional (3D) data.

During the first part of the event, in the morning, there will be an introduction to IIIF, on the ongoing work of the IIIF community regarding the further development of a conceptual framework, which can complement and extend existing IIIF specifications for 3D objects as well as the development of IIIF and 3D at DaSCH and at the University of Basel’s Digital Humanities Lab.

The early afternoon is intended to be followed by short presentations of what is being done in other organizations. The third and last part of the event will be conducted in a workshop format.

You can contribute to the event by giving a 15-minute presentation on the topics of IIIF and/or 3D. To do so, you need to submit an abstract by completing this form by 15 July 2023. You’ll be notified about the acceptance of your presentation by early August.

Furthermore, we kindly ask you to fill in the questionnaire which you can download below concerning 3D data and/or IIIF and to send it to until September 30th, 2023. Your input is precious information for DaSCH to ensure we develop what is needed!

The programme and details about how to register will be available by August.

Note that this event foreshadows the ongoing efforts of the IIIF 3D working groups whereby active members of the IIIF community and experts will meet in Basel during the same week (Thursday, 26 October) to work further on the subject of 3D within an interoperable space. DaSCH will host this event of the IIIF 3D working groups together with the University of Basel’s Digital Humanities Lab, the program will be within the responsibility of the IIIF 3D Technical Specification Group and the IIIF Editorial Committee. You are all welcome to attend this event as well.
