Annotating Media of Bruno Manser

Project Status

Ongoing

Short Description

When traveling through the rainforest, Bruno Manser was never without his camera. He took more than 10,000 photographs between 1986 and 2000 during his stays with the Penan on Borneo and the Pygmies in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The photos document the traditional life of the nomadic Penan, the Pygmies and the rainforest as their habitat, conveying the ruthless destruction of primary forests by timber companies and the resistance of the indigenous population. They also bear witness to Bruno Manser’s sometimes spectacular actions in the fight against the deforestation of his paradise on Borneo.

The project shows and annotates the everyday moments of a nomadic lifestyle across different types of media, including diary entries, video footage and photographs by Bruno Manser.

We are working on making the data available on our user friendly DSP-APP. Thank you for your patience.
